Location
Cammeray is a delightful garden suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney. It is in the local government area of the Municipality of North Sydney and is only five kilometres north of Sydney’s CBD. Cammeray is a mostly residential suburb, boasting a sheltered, tranquil bush setting that stands in stark contrast to the concrete and glass towers of the nearby suburbs of Crows Nest and North Sydney. Many houses have waterfront access, offering spectacular views of Sydney’s Middle Harbour.


Household Occupancy
The primary age group in Cammeray is 30-39 years. Single parents make up the largest group of residents at 33% of the population, equal to that of Mosman, which was named the ‘divorcee capital of Australia.’ Childless couples make up 25% of the population and couples with children, 19%. With regard to occupancy, the largest demographic are renters, making up a considerable 45% of residences. Only 25% of residents own their home outright and the remaining 27%, who are purchasers, would be paying more than $2,000 a month in mortgage repayments. The majority of residents in Cammeray are employed in professional occupations, earning salaries of greater than $103k per annum.

Median Prices
In 2010, the average sale price of houses in the area is $1,719,920. On average, this price tag will purchase a three bedroom, one to two bathroom home with a garage. In comparison, the average sale price for a one to two bedroom, one bathroom unit with car parking facilities is $704,786. Top sale prices recorded for each category of $8,300,000 and $4,850,000 respectively, have been recorded in the last six months. 165 units and 60 houses were sold in Cammeray in 2009.

The Neighbourhood
The streets of Cammeray are beautifully lined with a variety of trees and nature strips, giving the suburb its luscious, green ambience. Most properties in the area are single or double story stand-alone houses, however a few low rise apartment blocks have recently been developed. Tunks Park is a very popular recreational area for locals that attracts joggers, pet owners and families enjoying a leisurely stroll. The park also boasts scenic bushwalking trails for the more adventurous types, leading to Naremburn in the west and Northbridge in the east. At the western end of the park are three sporting fields, regularly used by local Cricket, Soccer, Rugby League and Rugby Union clubs. Cammeray Golf Club is another community hotspot, offering a nine-hole golf course with magnificent views of Middle Harbour and a stylish function centre perfect for weddings, birthdays and corporate conferences. There are three childcare centres located in the district as well as two schools, Cammeray Public School and Cammeray Pre-School.

Transport
Cammeray is only a nine minute drive to Sydney’s CBD and is the last of the southbound bus stops for services that operate via the Warringah Freeway to the CBD. However, there are other south-bound services that stop at North Sydney, Milson’s Point and Crow’s Nest. The suburb is only a five minute drive to North Sydney Railway Station, where trains operate on the Northern and North Shore lines of the City Rail Network. Services run north to Hornsby and south to the CBD before continuing west to Burwood, Parramatta and Penrith. The easily recognisable Long Gully Bridge, a sandstone bridge spanning Tunks Park, is a vital link to suburbs north of Cammeray. 

Restaurants, Accommodation, Amenities
Stockland Cammeray is the local neighbourhood centre boasting a unique array of cafes, restaurants, boutique shopping and food outlets. It is situated on the corner of Miller and Amherst Streets and is a distinctive meeting place for local residents of all ages, with its welcoming and buzzing atmosphere. Miller Street, the main thoroughfare through the district is also lined with an impressive array of Chinese, Thai and Italian restaurants that fill quickly on weeknights and weekends. Cammeray is not home to the high-rise hotels of its more commercial neighbours, but rather offers two self-catering motels. The Cammeray Gardens and Nicolas Royal Motels are both popular destinations offering picturesque surroundings of Sydney’s Middle Harbour and selected areas of the untamed Australian bush.
