Location
Northbridge is a sought-after suburb on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, distinguished by the historic Long Gulley Bridge. It is only seven kilometres north of Sydney’s CBD and is in the local government area of the Municipality of Willoughby. Situated east of the Warringah Freeway, Northbridge is bordered by Cammeray to the south and Castlecrag to the north. The area features many large waterfront houses, which overlook Sailor’s Bay, Middle Harbour and Port Jackson.

Household Occupancy
Northbridge has one of the oldest populations on the Lower North Shore with the predominant age group falling between 40-49 years. It is very much a family dominated region with the largest group of residents being couples with children (46%). Childless couples make up 23% of the population and single parents a low 20%. A healthy 48% of residents own their homes outright, 31% are purchasers and only 19% are renting. Those who are purchasing their homes would be paying more than $2,000 a month in mortgage repayments. The majority of residents in Northbridge are employed in professional occupations, earning salaries of greater than $103k per annum.

Average Prices
In 2010, the average sale price of houses in the area is $2,099,500. On average, this price tag will purchase a three bedroom, two bathroom home with a garage. In comparison for units, the average sale price over the past six months of a one to two bedroom, one bathroom unit with car parking facilities is $637,214. Top sale prices recorded for each category of $6,825,000 and $1,400,000, respectively, have been recorded in the last six months. 34 units and 93 houses were sold in Northbridge in 2009.

The Neighbourhood

Clive, Elizabeth and Hallstrom Parks offer the most exquisite views as well as extensive barbecue and playground facilities for the perfect family day out. Roche Playground is another popular spot, featuring a BMX bike track for the more active residents. Northbridge is also home to a magnificent 18-hole golf course with beautiful harbour views typical of the region as well as great restaurant, function and conference facilities. There are two primary schools in Northbridge, St Philip Neri Catholic School and Northbridge Public School which has hosted many prestigious international events including the 2003 “Australian of the Year Awards.” Shore Prepartory School is also located in the west of Northbridge, grooming young boys for one of the most exclusive schools in Sydney.

Transport
Northbridge is just over a ten minute drive from Sydney’s CBD. There are seven major bus routes from the CBD to Northbridge via Wynyard Station. The most popular bus stop is located at the major intersection between Strathallen Avenue and Sailor’s Bay Road. The suburb is only a short drive to North Sydney Railway Station, where trains operate on the Northern and North Shore lines of the City Rail Network. Services run north to Hornsby and south to the CBD before continuing west to Burwood, Parramatta and Penrith. The historic Long Gully Bridge, a sandstone bridge spanning Tunks Park, is a vital link to surrounding suburbs.

Restaurants, Accommodation, Amenities
Northbridge Plaza is the local neighbourhood shopping centre on Eastern Valley Way. It features a supermarket, banks, bakers, chemists and a range of specialty stores including fashion lines such as Witchery and Blue Illusion. Northbridge also boasts a vast array of restaurants influenced by international cuisines. An impressive three local restaurants are listed on the Australian Good Food and Travel Guide. Offering modern Australian cuisine, Bay Twenty Three is a casual café by day and elegant restaurant by night whilst Borruso’s Pizza and Pasta and Spice Market Thai are very popular meeting spots on Strathallen Avenue. There are no major hotels in Northbridge, however the North Shore Harbour Apartment is a perfect option for family holidays and overnight business trips. It is approximately a five minute drive from Northbridge to the North Shore and Rydges Hotels in North Sydney.
